After 29 years carefully cultivating the beautiful Hope Lodge Gardens in Burlington; Master Gardener, Jane Murphy has decided to offer her invaluable knowledge and history of the garden in a new role as mentor for the next generation of Hope Lodge gardeners.
“29 years - that’s remarkable dedication! I’ve had the privilege of helping out at Hope Lodge gardens and I know a lot of you have too. Jane is the consummate gardener. We could all learn a lot from her. I sure have.
Congratulations Dear Jane, on 29 years of beautiful gardens. ”
Hope Lodge has been at its current location since 2008. Jane was involved in the initial garden design. The gardens just scream Jane: Perennial and annual gardens, tomatoes and basil, window boxes off the balcony and containers by the front entrance – everything is Jane through and through.
The gardens are a year-round project for Jane. In early spring it’s hardy plants for the containers by the entrance, always keeping them looking perfect for the Hope Lodge guests.
Then in planting season Jane knows where to find the best geraniums, zinnias and other plants that do well in the garden. She even raises her favorite Rudbeckia -Prairie Sun from seed.
At planting time, Jane’s there with her car loaded with plants, potting soil, all kinds of tools, and even gallon jugs of water she’s brought from home.
During the summer, in addition to the monthly work sessions, Janemakes frequent trips to Hope Lodge, watering, dead heading and replacing plants when necessary. All this to keep the gardens in tiptop shape.
Even after fall clean up, she goes back to add greens and decorations for the containers by the entrance, so they will look nice over the holidays.
