Blue Star Marker Dedication 

DEDICATION OF THE BLUE STAR MEMORIAL MARKER ~ May 27th, 2025

American Legion Post 91, Colchester, VT

Presented by the Federated Garden Club of Vermont, Inc.

The Blue Star Program honors all men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services. This program began with the planting of 8,000 Dogwood trees by the New Jersey Council of Garden Clubs in 1944 as a living memorial to veterans of World War ll. In 1945, the National Council of State Garden Clubs (now NGC, Inc) adopted this program and began a Blue Star Highway system that covers thousands of miles across Continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Flora Bell, posing with Liz Hill, raised over 2,500 dollars for the marker including organizing a successful Spaghetti Dinner at the American Legion - Post 91 in Colchester, Vermont.

Vermont is proud to have five (5) markers throughout Vermont, the work of individual Vermont garden clubs over the years.
