Classic Meets Creative with Judy Gray
The BGC welcomed 70+ members and guests to learn about floral design with Judy!
Judy Gray, a leading award-winning floral designer created three on-the-floor floral designs at our April 28, 2026 monthly meeting. As she worked, she explained how to cut the different type of flower stems based on their softness. She proceeded to bend, split, and curl various leaves and stems from tropical plants and show us how to use them to cover the bases and also to add rhythm, movement and balance to the arrangements.
“My design methodology integrates traditional and innovative floral concepts. Participants will gain insight into conditioning techniques, sustainable mechanics, and the principles and elements of floral design. ”
Judy employs an eco-friendly approach to all her designs by incorporating up-cycled materials and strongly suggested that we use all-natural floral foam called Agra-Wool in lieu of the old standard Oasis floral foam product which does not decompose. All three of her finished designs brought a touch of spring to our meeting by using orange Roses, yellow Snapdragons, Leucadendron, Aspidistra, purple Calla lilies, blue sweet peas, purple straw flowers, and soft fresh moss. These arrangements were snatched up quickly at the concluding auction.
